Who can apply?

Since DCIS is a Denver Public Schools magnet, students living anywhere in the metropolitan Denver area may apply. DCIS seeks to enroll a diverse population of students each year as a parallel to the world which is studied in the school’s curriculum. The character of this diversity includes such areas as race and ethnicity, learning style, and socioeconomic background.

How and when can I apply?

School tours are available on Wednesdays from September 25th through January 29th in the auditorium from 9:30 am to 10:15 am. The following dates: October 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th; November 6th, 13th, 20th; December 4th, 11th, 18th; January 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th.

All Families must complete a Choice Form for each child for the Denver Public Schools indicating their top five choices in DPS. Families may complete this form either electronically or via hard copy. The forms will be available from the DPS Choice Office beginning in December. Families will be directly applying for their students to one of the specific language communities at DCIS (Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lakota and Spanish). Families make choose more than once, ie. First Choice – DCIS Chinese, Second Choice – DCIS Italian. DPS will conduct a lottery at the beginning of February for all DPS students that have completed an application. DCIS students will be chosen by lottery for each individual language community. Students selected via the DPS School Choice process will be notified at the beginning of March for their assigned school for the 2014-2015 school year. All students and their family members must attend a mandatory orientation on Tuesday, March 11th from 7 to 8:30 pm. Students that do not attend the mandatory orientation will be assigned to another DPS school.

How will I get to school?

A DPS school bus will pick up any 6th-8th grader that lives at least 2.5 miles from DCIS and resides in the City and County of Denver. DPS  School buses pick-up DCIS students at the neighborhood middle schools in Denver.

High school students that live within Denver’s city limits, and at least 3.5 miles from DCIS and within the City and County of Denver, qualify for a RTD pass that will be purchased for them. If there is a DPS bus that picks up a 6th-8th grader near a high schooler’s house, the high schooler can apply to the DPS Transportation Department to ride the school bus, if there is available space.
