Who can apply?

Since DCIS is a Denver Public Schools magnet, students living anywhere in the metropolitan Denver area may apply. DCIS seeks to enroll a diverse population of students each year as a parallel to the world which is studied in the school’s curriculum. The character of this diversity includes such areas as race and ethnicity, learning style, and socioeconomic background.

How and when can I apply?

School tours are available on the following dates: October 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st; November 7th, 14th, 28th, December 5th, from 8:00-9:00 am.

Evening tours are available on Tuesday, November 6th and 13th from 6:30-8:00 pm.

The application for the 2012-13 school year is available here. Please download, complete, and submit the application by December 14th, 2012. All complete applications received on or before the deadline of December 14th, 2012 will be given equal consideration.

We currently offer two ways to obtain, complete and submit an application (choose 1):

  1. Download the full application (12 pages), (print, complete, and submit by fax, mail or in person).
  2. Pick up a hard copy from an Open House or the DCIS Main Office (complete, and submit by fax, mail, or in person).

We suggest that one of the first actions you take towards completing your application is to ask two of your current teachers/counselors if they are willing to fill out a recommendation form for you. Teachers/counselors need ample time to complete these forms for you. Note: the two recommendation forms are included in the 12 page application available above.

Once you have all the documents completed (Student Information Form, Application Essay, two Recommendation Forms, and School Records Request Form) you will submit your paperwork to the DCIS main office either in person, or by mail at:

The Denver Center for International Studies
Admissions
574 W. 6th Ave
Denver, CO 80204.

It is important to note that all complete applications received before the deadline (December 14th, 2012) are given equal consideration. This means a complete application submitted September 30th is given no extra preference than a complete application submitted on December 9th. However, we do recommend you start the process as early as possible to give yourself sufficient time to obtain all necessary documents and to work hard on your essay.

How will I get to school?

A DPS school bus will pick up any 6th-8th grader that lives at least 2.5 miles from DCIS and resides in the City and County of Denver.

High school students that live within Denver’s city limits, and at least 3.5 miles from DCIS and within the City and County of Denver, qualify for a RTD pass that will be purchased for them. If there is a DPS bus that picks up a 6th-8th grader near a high schooler’s house, the high schooler can apply to the DPS Transportation Department to ride the school bus, if there is available space.
