What We’re Doing
Cross-Cultural Enrichment Grants
Have an idea for a cultural enrichment opportunity to benefit DCIS students but you’re unsure how to fund it? Consider submitting an application to the PTSA for a small grant (up to $300). Knowing that many DCIS students will never have the opportunity to travel internationally, the goal of these grants is to promote equity in cross-cultural experiences and to allow more students to benefit from global enrichment. Read the guidelines and apply online here. Questions? Contact Karen at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-910-6698.
Help Us Transform Our School!
The DCIS Beautification Committee is ready to begin implementing our plan to transform the school into a much more appealing and dynamic environment, and we would love for you to help us out! We need as many volunteers as possible to accomplish what we want to do by year’s end. If we can gather our resources and put in some time together going forward, DCIS will look like a very different and much improved school by this May!
First, here is link to a Google spreadsheet with specifics of the plan (click on the link in the green box once you open the Plan document to see the slide show), a timeline, and a request for materials and labor: DCIS Beautification Plan Please look the spreadsheet over and see what might be of interest to you in helping out. We would appreciate anything you can offer, whether it’s a donation, a task you can do from home on your own time, or your presence at the school for much needed labor 🙂 There is a place to add your contact information for a specific task on the spreadsheet.
Second, an integral part of this beautification project is displaying photos throughout the school of DCIS and its students, DCIS student and staff travels (local and abroad), and general scenic photos of different regions of the world. If you have any photos you’d like to submit, please email them to us at: BeautifyDCIS@gmail.com. Because most of these photos will need to be enlarged for hallway displays, please send us photos with sufficient resolution, and please include a short description or label of the photo (for example, “Photo of DCIS Trip to Costa Rica” or “Great Wall, China” or the names and grade levels of the students in the pictures, where appropriate).
Your help is essential to making this project a success! If you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to contact either Laurie Harris at email@example.com or Karen Mortimer at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks so much!

Family Night Presentation: College 101
Thanks to DCIS counselor Melisa Monteon for presenting “College 101” at our Family Night on Oct. 11. She provided lots of helpful information on the different types of colleges, how to plan by grade level for college, and an overview of testing, scholarships, financial aid, and lots more. You can view a PDF of her PowerPoint presentation in English here or Spanish here and checklists by grade level of how to prepare for college here.
How You Can Help
Help Staff Meet Their Needs!
The staff wish list is “live”! The staff wish list is a place for staff to post their classroom supply (e.g., planners) or volunteer (e.g., help with yearbook) needs and for parents to then raise their hand and say “I got ya.” Please click here to see if you can meet some of the needs at DCIS! If you would like to donate money for the PTSA to help meet these needs, please donate here and put Staff Wish List in the Purpose field.
Donate to the Phoenix Fund!
Looking for an easy way to support your student’s experience at DCIS? Consider making a one-time or recurring direct donation to our Phoenix Fund! To find out what your donation supports and how it works, click here: English Espaol. Click on the button below to make a donation.
