In addition to maintaining a physical collection of a wide selection of books, the DCIS library lends out technology and offers students a makerspace.
Students, using their student ID number, can check out most books (excluding reference books) for three weeks and renew them twice after that. The library doesn’t assign fines for overdue books, trusting that students will demonstrate Integrity in returning any materials they have checked out.
Students can check out tablets, Chromebooks, headphones, etc. for use at school only.
The makerspace includes a wide variety of creative tools students can use for class projects or for fun during free times or lunch (although no food or drink is allowed in the library), including:
And the collection continues to grow! The makerspace equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis, unless demand is high at a particular time, in which case a waitlist is used.
The library is open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and offers both study tables and comfortable seating such as bean bag chairs and pillows to accommodate a variety of uses. A few games (e.g., chess) are also available.
In addition to the library’s many on-site offerings, students, teachers and parents can access a number of online resources, including research databases and ebooks. Learn more here.
