Safety is a top priority at DCIS. We have an unarmed campus safety officer (CSO) on-site at all times, and security cameras are installed throughout the building and around the school. The doors are locked at all times.
Students’ personal items, such as a purse, book bag, backpack, locker, or car, may be searched whenever a school authority has reasonable grounds for suspecting that the search will turn up evidence that the student has violated or is violating either the law or school rules. In all such cases, the school will notify the student’s parents/guardians about the search.
All visitors are to enter the building through the doors on the east side (Delaware Avenue). Upon arrival, they should press the button on the intercom to the right of the doors to alert the front office. Someone in the front office will ask the reason for their visit, then unlock the door remotely. All visitors must report to the main office to sign in and get a visitor pass. Someone will escort new visitors to wherever they need to go.
Emergency situations at the school are rare, but it’s good to know how the school and district will respond in each situation and how parents/guardians should respond.
