At DCIS, our leadership and hiring committees recognize the critical need for our students to see themselves reflected in the people who educate and support them. When students and families walk into DCIS, we want their first impression and lasting impression to be that they matter. There is no stronger message around who matters in a school than who works in the school.

In 2020, our retention and staffing data from DPS revealed that DCIS, like many schools in Denver, had a very low number of Latinx and Black educators and staff. Over 70% of our student population identifies as Latinx, Black, Indigenous, or People of Color, and in order to contribute to a more supportive environment, DCIS has increased the number of staff identifying as Hispanic by 82% and Black by 200%.
