During the week of July 3 -10, 2024 our school will host seniors who have just graduated from high schools across America in Denver. This is part of our DCIS partnership with the American Exchange Project (AEP) where students get to participate in both a local exchange as well as one where they travel away from their home to a different state.
The activities students participate in are geared towards uniting seniors with other seniors from diverse backgrounds all across the country and also giving them an opportunity to share their own city of Denver with the students who visit from several states.
Each summer we invite DCIS staff and families to host a student for one week to provide a space for them to stay while they are visiting Denver. I hosted three students last year and had a wonderful experience.
If you or anyone you know is able to open your home to a visiting student(s) please click the link to sign up to be a host family for a week. Also, check out the website to get a deeper understanding of what the program is trying to do for young people across the country, all free of charge to Seniors.
DCIS very own Camay Hunter is interviewed by CBS Colorado on this first-of-its-kind student exchange program, which may help bridge the nation’s growing political divide. Click here to watch the video!
“Whether they go on to college or the work world, that they will begin to share ideas that will help people integrate better in their ideologies — understand perspectives from other people. Being closed-minded is one of the worst places to be as a human being.”
