Dear DCIS Families:
The Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) is the state’s common-sense, end-of-year measure of student progress and includes the following assessments:
English Language Arts (ELA): Grades 3-8
or Spanish Language Arts (CSLA): Grades 3-4 *Qualifying multilingual learners.
Math: Grades 3-8.
Science: Grades 5, 8, and 11.
Social Studies: Grades 4 and 7. *At select schools.
Please review the attached CMAS calendar to see when your child will be tested. Missing school for makeup tests can be avoided if students arrive on time and if appointments and vacations are scheduled on non-testing days. Before each CMAS testing session, students are instructed to turn off their personal electronic devices and return them to the teacher. This, along with our school cell phone policy, helps maintain test validity and a standardized testing environment for all students.
Assessment data is critical in determining whether educational goals are being met and whether students are on track to graduate college and career ready. We appreciate your support; however, if you plan to excuse your student from testing, you may do so in the Parent Portal, from October through February (which allows the school time to plan and schedule accordingly). Instructions are in the link at the bottom of this page: https://assessments.dpsk12.org/o/assessment/page/cmas .
