Dear DCIS Community,
Being your Principal since 2020 has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life; right up there with becoming a wife and a mother. At the beginning of May, I was recruited by Aurora Public Schools to consider a newly-created Director of School Operations position with them. After a lengthy hiring process, APS offered me an opportunity that I am excited about and have accepted after consultation with my family. I’m excited to support middle school and secondary Principals through this job, although it is bittersweet to leave a district I have known for 28 years of my life as a student, educator, soccer coach, and school leader.
A school like DCIS is reflective of the collective commitments and contributions of its people. When I think of the community at DCIS, and about the parents, students, educators, and staff, I feel very confident in the fact that our school is in capable and loving hands. Melissa Boyd, my Director, will be instrumental in supporting the transition to an interim Principal and she will be sharing communication with you all soon. Your wonderful administration team remains with a balanced pair of leaders like Maureen Davenport and Kevin Adams. I’d like to thank all of you who provided so much compassion over the past four years helping to move us from red to green, to establish us as a Whole Child Distinguished school, to maintain our outstanding graduation rate, and to create a space of belonging for an increasingly diverse staff and student population. The next Principal at DCIS will be privileged indeed to work with such a community!
I know uncertainty can be anxiety-provoking, and I would have preferred to communicate this to all community members prior to the end of the year. For those of you who know me, you know that my family comes first, and it did in this decision too. My goal between now and the end of June is to support a smooth transition, to make sure we are fully-staffed and ready for a great launch to the 24-25 school year. I am very confident in the leadership team at DCIS, made up of excellent teacher leaders, support staff, parent leaders, and administrators to carry DCIS forward in a positive way for your children.

Ser su directora desde el 2020 realmente ha sido uno de los mayores honores de mi vida; al igual que convertirme en esposa y madre. A principios de mayo, las Escuelas Públicas de Aurora me reclutaron para considerar un puesto de Director de Operaciones Escolares recién creado con ellos. Me entusiasma poder apoyar a los directores de escuelas intermedias y secundarias a través de este trabajo, aunque es agridulce dejar un distrito que conozco desde hace 28 años de mi vida como estudiante, educador, entrenador de fútbol y líder escolar.
Una escuela como DCIS refleja los compromisos colectivos y las contribuciones de su gente. Cuando pienso en la comunidad de DCIS y en los padres, estudiantes, educadores y personal, tengo mucha confianza en el hecho de que nuestra escuela está en manos capaces y amorosas. Melissa Boyd, mi directora, será fundamental para apoyar la transición a una directora interina y pronto compartirá comunicación con todos ustedes. Su maravilloso equipo administrativo permanece con un par equilibrado de líderes como Maureen Davenport y Kevin Adams. Sé que la incertidumbre puede provocar ansiedad y hubiera preferido comunicárselo a todos los miembros de la comunidad antes de fin de año. Para los que me conocen saben que mi familia es lo primero, y lo fue también en esta decisión. Mi objetivo desde ahora hasta finales de junio es apoyar una transición sin problemas, para asegurarme de que tengamos todo el personal y estemos listos para un gran lanzamiento del año escolar 24-25. Tengo mucha confianza en el equipo de liderazgo de DCIS, compuesto por excelentes maestros líderes, personal de apoyo, padres líderes y administradores para llevar adelante DCIS de una manera positiva para sus hijos.
