Spring Project Update: DCIS Community Mural

Posted February 20, 2022

DCIS Community! We’re excited to share an update on the DCIS Mural Project. In collaboration with local artists, Talia, Katy, and Grow Love, we will be co-creating a beautiful mural for our school. Our goal is to honor the land in which we occupy, acknowledge the community that surrounds us, and design alongside the many people who are and have been part of DCIS Baker.

The school mural vision and concept is centered on the theme of “Knowledge Creates Transformation”. Please see a preview of the mural below.

Save-the-Dates: If you are interested in participating, please join us at the following events

Note: These meetings will be hosted during the DCIS Art Club on Thursdays from 11-11:45AM.
  • Day 1 – March 10, 2022 (updated):
    Artists introduce themselves and present the mural project and concept. Put out the call for all students to bring in a textile or a picture of a textile from their heritage to the next meeting. Artists will give examples of textiles and how to present them to the group for the next meeting. Artists take pictures of students’ hands.
  • Day 2 – March 17, 2022(updated):
    Students bring in textiles or pictures of textiles and present them (tell the rest of us why they are meaningful to them). If it is ok with the students, we would like to video their presentation on how their textiles are meaningful to them.
  • Day 3 – April 7, 2022
    Artists present the final concept to the students showing their textile patterns and hands incorporated into the design. The students can practice painting their patterns on a small canvas, board, paper?
  • Day 4 – April 14, 2022

  • Day 5 – April 21, 2022

  • Day 6 – April 28, 2022
