School Meals

Denver Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services oversees all aspects of meals provided at DCIS. Learn more about breakfast and lunch menus.

A free breakfast is available to all students every day before school in the cafeteria, from 7:20 to 7:45 a.m.

View the lunch schedules (Link to Bell Schedule) for middle schoolers and high schoolers. Lunch occurs during different periods, except on Fridays to allow student clubs from all grades to meet.

Students in grades 9-12 may go off-campus for lunch. Students in grades 6-8 remain on campus for lunch.

Middle School

Middle school students are not allowed off campus during lunch, unless checked out by a parent or guardian in the main office. Students who leave the campus without permission will automatically receive two days of lunch detention and a parent phone call. A second offense will result in a parent conference and two days of after-school detention.

Students may eat in the cafeteria or outside only. Students are not allowed to eat lunch in the hallways or classrooms.

Students entering the cafeteria will spend the first half of lunch eating in the cafeteria. After 20 minutes students will have the option to transition to outside for recess or to stay in the cafeteria. Students who choose to go outside for the second half of lunch must stay outside.

While outside, students may not engage in rough play or tackling. When the whistle blows, students must stop what they are doing and line up at the middle doors on the west side of the building to enter.

Students can go to lunchtime tutoring as long as they have pre-arranged it with the teacher beforehand and have a visible pass.

On inclement weather days, students will go to the gym instead of outside.

High School

Students on campus may eat in the cafeteria or outside only. Students are not allowed to eat lunch in the hallways or classrooms.

Students can go to lunchtime tutoring as long as they have pre-arranged it with the teacher beforehand and have a visible pass.

High school students are allowed off campus for lunch and are expected to return to class on time. Open campus is a privilege, and DCIS reserves the option to require all students to remain on campus for lunch at any time. Repeatedly returning late from lunch can cause students to lose their off-campus lunch privileges and will eat their lunch in the cafeteria under supervision.

Meal Cost and Payment Options

Lunch costs $2.60 for middle school students and $2.85 for high school students, which students can pay for with cash or by using the My School Bucks account. The My School Bucks account can also be used to pay for other school costs including sports activity fees.

Students may qualify for free or reduced-price lunches, and other fee waivers. Eligibility is based on application information provided by a parent/guardian. Apply online for meal benefits.
